PETALING JAYA (March 11, 2008): DAP Selangor representative, Kinrara assemblyman Teresa Kok, today had audience with the Sultan of Selangor, during which she declared her party's support for PKR secretary-general Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to be appointed Menteri Besar.
She told reporters after her hour-long audience with the ruler from 3pm that the party had issued a letter of consent on this matter to the Sultan.
Kok, who represented the DAP's 13 assemblymen, said the Sultan also wanted to know whether both parties could work together to form the state government.
The PKR won 15 seats, and PAS eight in the 12th general election. Together with DAP, the loose coalition wants to rule Selangor. Barisan Nasional (BN) has 20 seats in the 56-seat state assembly, and will become the opposition in a huge change of political fortune.
Asked if her audience with the Sultan meant that she was the deputy menteri besar-designate, as speculated in the vernacular newspapers today, the good-natured Kok said, with a chuckle: "An announcement will be made later."
Pressed on whether any decisions had been made on the exco positions, Kok said the three parties will sit together to iron out the details.
Asked if DAP was ready now to work together with PAS, Kok said: "We have already decided to form a government and with that we have to cooperate."
Asked if the Sultan had imposed any conditions during the meeting, Kok said: "He did express concern but he is not supposed to be involved in partisan politics.
"However, he wanted to make sure that everything goes smoothly and that we all (the three parties) can work together," said Kok, who is DAP's publicity secretary and also Seputeh MP.
After Kok left, three PAS representatives had an audience with the Sultan from 5.20pm to 7pm.
They were Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Hasan Mohd Ali, deputy president Nasaruddin Mat Isa and Terengganu commissioner Datuk Mustapha Ali, who is also election director.
After the meeting, they left the palace in a Mercedes Benz and a black 4-WD vehicle without speaking to a big group of waiting reporters and photographers.
It is learnt that both the DAP and PAS have agreed to support Khalid to be appointed as their Mentri Besar.
