Give teacher the boot
I FELT extremely sad and upset reading the news about the remarks made by the irresponsible History teacher of SMK Telok Panglima Garang.
Merdeka Day is just around the corner but after 51 years of independence, there are still racial remarks made and worse still, this time from a woman in a noble career – a teacher. What a shame!
The person who is supposed to teach students about unity, good attitude and behaviour has definitely failed to be a role model, let alone teach the students about it. I wonder how she, with such low morale, even qualified to be a teacher.
In Article 1 and 2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it is mentioned that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood. Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
This teacher has not only clearly breached Human Rights but has tarnished the respect we have for the noble teaching profession.
I urge the Education Ministry to take stern action against this irresponsible teacher even if she has apologised for her action.
Such irresponsible teachers must be sacked. Please send a clear message that racial remarks are not acceptable in any condition.
I truly hope that this will be the last time we will ever have to hear such remarks. You and I, regardless of our skin colours, looks and background are born in this land of Malaysia. We are Malaysians. This has to be in our hearts and not just in some unity bands or songs.
