Barisan Nasional has been accused of orchestrating an elaborate plan to prevent ousted Pakatan Rakyat speaker V Sivakumar from exercising his duties at the state assembly sitting today. Sivakumar, who levelled the charge at a press conference in Ipoh, said this was evident when a large group of police personnel stopped him at the car park of the state secretariat building, where the legislative assembly is located. He said their motive was to confiscate the speaker's robe and songkok that he was wearing. "It was a BN conspiracy to grab the official robe from me," he claimed, saying the police choked him in the ensuing struggle as he attempted to hold on to it. Teja state assemblyperson Chang Ming Kai said he went to Sivakumar's assistance, but was in turn was stopped by police personnel. NEW DELHI: A Malaysian trekker on a spiritual visit, who went missing in the northern Indian mountains more than a month ago, was found dead by an Indian rescue team. Vicknesvaren Murugesu's body was found Saturday night in the hilly Topavan area, about 25 km from his resthouse in Gangotri, a popular spiritual site in Uttarkashi, in the northern state of Uttranchal. The 33-year-old Vicknesvaren, an engineer by profession, arrived in Gangotri on Sept 18 and trekked to Topavan with a local porter. He was scheduled to have returned to his resthouse about two weeks later but failed to show up. Renowned Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand made several explosive allegations at the Teoh Beng Hock inquest this morning. Among others, Pornthip suggested that the political aide could have been strangled before falling from the 14th floor of Plaza Masalam. The colourful doctor noted that the marks on Teoh's neck indicated the possibility of 'manual strangulation'. Furthermore, she pointed out that Teoh's skull fracture was not typical of an injury from a fall. In another startling revelation, Pornthip said the injury to the deceased's anus could have been caused by penetration with an object before his fall. "From the post-mortem picture, I found that there was a contusion on the right side of the neck, which we (pathologists) call a handle bruise, and this injury is compatible with injury caused by manual trangulation," said Porntip who has conducted more than 10,000 post-mortems. PUTRAJAYA: State education directors have been told to approve requests from schools for an extra day off on Oct 20 to celebrate Deepavali. Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the ministry has received many such requests from parents and schools. “The decision was made to enable parents to make plans for their families to travel earlier and avoid traffic jams,” he said, after inspecting students sitting for the first day of the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) at SMK Presint 8 (1) yesterday. A victory for Umno/BN's Isa Samad in Bagan Pinang will set a dangerous future electoral trend where tainted characters could become elected representatives in the country, a political scientist said today.
