Padang Serai rep is uncouth, says Hishammuddin
KUALA TERENGGANU: The behaviour of Padang Serai MP N. Gobala-krishnan, who got into a scuffle with a policeman during the Permatang Pasir by-election nomination on Monday was unacceptable and uncouth, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
“I am very angry and ashamed with the behaviour of someone who is a parliamentarian.
“His despicable conduct has tainted the image of the Parlia-ment.
“I will ask the Attorney-General to speed up the prosecution case against Gobalakrishnan,” Hishammuddin told reporters after chairing the state Umno liaison committee meeting here yesterday.
He said it was unbecoming of a parliamentarian to rough up a police officer who was carrying out his duties to restore order during the nomination.
Gobalakrishnan had allegedly shouted offensive remarks and
was involved in a fight with a policeman. Both of them were injured.
Hishammuddin said the opposition MP had tried to gain political mileage by shifting the public’s attention to police brutality.
“This is an irresponsible act and it is hard for us to pardon him,” he said.
Hishammuddin praised Penang police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Yakoob for not reacting emotionally during the commotion and in ensuring that his officers executed their duties diligently.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said Gobalakrishnan must be prosecuted for obstructing the police from carrying out their duties.
