Umno members can't take party matters to court
KUALA LUMPUR, WED:
Umno information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib said Umno members do not have the right to take party matters to court.
He said this matter was clearly stated in the Umno constitution which was amended after the party was declared illegal by the court previously.
"A clause had been amended...anyone who brings up cases concerning the party to the court will automatically be expelled from Umno," he said when replying to a question concerning two Umno members who planned to prevent the Umno general assembly from being held later this month.
The question was raised by a member of the audience after Muhammad, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, delivered a speech at the Briefing on Current Issues by the Information Ministry on "Current Political Developments in the Country: Regaining the Public Confidence" at the Auditorium Perdana,Angkasapuri, here today.
Yesterday, a former Umno Youth Executive Council member and a delegate said they planned to apply for an injunction to prevent the Umno general assemblyfrom being held on March 24, if all cases of money politics in the party were not resolved beforehand.
The two Umno members concerned are former Umno Youth Exco member Datuk Mazlan Harun and Muar Umno division delegate Datuk Kadar Shah Sulaiman Ninamshah.
Muhammad said any issue concerning Umno must be referred to and resolved within the party.
He also said that if Barisan Nasional (BN), with Umno as its pillar of strength, wished to survive in future, it must be able to transform to face new issues and aspiration of the young generation.
On the political crisis in Perak, Muhammad said from the legal aspect, the state government led by Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir was valid as it was appointed by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah, according to the powers held by the Sultan after considering that Zambry had the majority support in the state assembly.
