Man turns to Parliament for justice over son's death in prisonGiam Say Khoon
KUALA LUMPUR (May 27, 2008): The father of an imate who died in the Sungai Buloh prison turned up in Parliament today seeking justice for his son.
Gaur Chandran, 51, who lost Uthaya Chandran, 23, two weeks ago, was received by N. Gobalakrishnan (PKR-Padang Serai) and S. Manikavasagam (PKR-Kapar).
Gobalakrishnan said Uthaya Chandran, who was beaten to death was a suspect awaiting trial.
He said the father wanted justice for his son and hoped that the incident will not befall others.
Gaur also handed a memorandum to the two MPs.
In the memorandum, he asked that the prison wardens involved in the incident be investigated.
He also questioned why his son was not allowed to transfer to anoother cell and the closed-circuit TVs were not functioning.
Manikavasagam said he had tabled an urgent motion yesterday and hoped the motion can be debated tomorrow.
"A total of 80 cases of inmates dying in police lock-ups and prisons have been recorded nationwide but most of cases are not investigated," he added.
