Early morning of Thaipusam
The great Lord Murugan....
A Chinese man blessing and giving holy ash
Carrying "kudam" (container) of milk for Lord Murugan
Hooking the lime on the body with special hooks...

(no pain if the person is in the super conscious state)
The fire was on his tongue for about 10 seconds....
No, no the red thing is not the blood but the "kum-kum(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumkum)" that is used by Indian, specially the females on the forehead.

With all the Kavadi and people at Batucaves, I would say it was only about 1/3 of the actual crowd turn-up at Batu Caves, I can also drop it to 1/4 as KL was on holiday there should have been more massive crowd.
The rest of course visited the other temples. But the best thing was the announcer was saying the place was getting congested and lots of Kavadis are coming ... but I was right at the main access way in the temple, it was never as he claimed. The stairs were empty....can almost run up and all had very free and easy walk and space to watch and wait for the kavadis.
This proves 2 thing....
1. Lord Murugan is not only at Batucaves but where ever a pure hearted devotee wants him to be.
2. Indians are still united
