Siva lodges police report over ‘gun’ at assembly

IPOH: Former Speaker V. Sivakumar has lodged a police report over claims that an object, believed to be a firearm, was brought into the Perak State Assembly sitting on May 7.

“An unidentified man brought an object believed to be a firearm into the state assembly sitting,” said Perak DAP secretary Nga Kor Ming during a press conference.

“Nobody, not even the assemblymen, is allowed to bring firearms into the house. We want the Attorney-General to charge those involved,” he said, adding that it broke global parliamentary conventions.

He showed reporters a video clip taken using a mobile phone of a man pulling out an object from his left rear waistband.

However, only a blurry image of the object could be seen on the video. Nga claimed that the object could be a revolver.

Sivakumar, who was at the press conference, later lodged a police report on the matter at the Ipoh police headquarters.

Nga also urged the Attorney-General to charge deputy speaker Hee Yit Foong with assault under Section 323 of the Penal Code for allegedly using pepper spray on Aulong assemblyman Yew Tian Hoe.

He showed a videograb of Hee, apparently committing the offence, that was published in Chinese newspaper Guang Ming Daily on May 12.

Meanwhile, Perak DAP chief Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham claimed that Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir was acting in contempt of court by resuming his duties as the Perak Mentri Besar.

Ngeh said that until the Court of Appeal made its decision, neither Dr Zambry nor Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin could legally carry out any mentri besar duty.
