As Swami Sivananda was a doctor, the commitment was carried on to help the poor and needed with medical services on top on food, cloths and other basic need. When I was there about 500 poor people had free eye operation for various reasons.

When he was five years old, his father Sivanesar passed away. It was time for Tiruvengadar (Pattinathar) to approach a guru and to be initiated into the worship of Lord Siva.
