Kugan: A death in custody

I could not stop posting more information that i see in the Internet about the death of Kugan.

Here is what said about the port mortem in Malaysian Medical Resources (MMR)

Another custodial death. No foul play?

What’s the furor all about?

22-year-old Kugan Ananthan died in police custody. He was being held under a two-week remand to facilitate police investigations linking him to several car theft cases. From the press we gather that a post-mortem found “liquid in his lungs”. Does this mean there was no foul play? If you read the MSM, that’s what they are saying.

"Post-mortem revealed no foul play in the death of police detainee A. Kugan at the Subang Taipan police station."

But there seems to be more than that. If you read Malaysiakini and watch the video (warning: viewer discretion is strongly advised as there are pretty graphic images here) there appears to be unusual injuries to the body.

Was the suspect in fact so severely beaten during his interrogation that this beating led to his death? Severe physical torture can certainly lead to various complications including rhabdomyolysis, acute renal failure and pulmonary oedema (water in the lungs). “Water in the lungs” does not just develop in a young man who has no prior cardiac, respiratory or other serious ailments. We do not of course know more details about his medical background and more detailed post-mortem findings but I am not surprised that the relatives of the deceased want a second post-mortem.

Charles Santiago has called upon the Government to urgently stop custodial killings. Interesting figures from that article:
"According to statistics revealed in Parliament last year, there were a total of 1535 custodial deaths in the country between 2003 and 2007."

Staggering numbers! Are police lockups a serious health hazard?

The peoples reaction :

T Mohan said "The Police asked Kuhan to lick his own blood"

seals: My question (as I said earlier) can the guilty party investigate itself?
How can a healthy person can have water in the lungs all of a sudden?
What is the content of the fluid that was in the lungs ... ? What was the cause of the "water in lungs"
Can a non-government pathologist be allowed to perform 2nd post mortem under the supervision of the lawyers?
