Wan Azizah quits, Anwar to contest

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has quit as Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament to make way for husband Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to contest in a by-election.

She handed her resignation letter to Parliament Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia on Thursday, she said at a press conference here on Thursday.

She will remain as party president, she added.

Anwar, under a police investigation for allegedly sodomising a former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 23, had previously said he would contest in the Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentary constituency, where an election petition is pending.

The case is scheduled for hearing on Aug 19.

On Thursday, Anwar said he had decided to contest in Pematang Pauh instead because the Kulim petition might take too long to settle.

He had previously said that he would have the numbers to form the government by Sept 16, and said the sodomy allegation was a conspiracy the Barisan Nasional Government to stop him from doing so.

He has denied the sodomy allegations and has filed a defamation suit against Mohd Saiful.
Also on Thursday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar announced that the police had wrapped up their investigations into the sodomy case, and have sent their report to the Attorney-General's Chambers for further action.

The Election Commission is required under the law to call for a by-election within 60 days. Its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said the Commission would start preparing for the by-election upon receiving notice from the Speaker.

Muzakarah: Majlis Syura, Jawatankuasa Pusat PAS sedang bermesyuarat bincang pendirian penting

Hudud syarat PAS muqabalah! Sanusi anggap Umno amat perlukan PAS

Justeru, PAS kena tolong Umno," katanya.

“Bagaimanapun, jika kita lihat sekarang, orang Umno sendiri tak percaya Pak Lah, macam mana PAS nak percaya,” katanya.

Syed Hamid calls for action against those who leaked medical

reportby Tim Leonardmailto:Leonardnewsdesk@thesundaily.com

KUALA LUMPUR (July 29, 2008) : Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar today urged the medical fraternity to take stern action against a Myanmar doctor from Hospital Pusrawi or anyone responsible for "leaking" a medical report on Saiful Bukhari Azlan showing no evidence of sodomy.

Syed Hamid also lambasted Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for going around publishing the medical reports through the media.

"If he (Anwar) has new evidence, he should give them to the police," said Syed Hamid, after officiating at the International Conference on Representation of Islam and Muslims in the Media in PWTC.

He added that it was unethical for doctors to reveal medical reports of their patients.
Syed Hamid later said police can't rush into their investigations into allegations of sodomy by Anwar.

"They (police) have to do it meticulously. If we want to do justice, we have to do it meticulously. Have you ever seen in any country ... all evidence put forward before going to court?" he asked reporters.

His comments marked an about turn in the Home Minister's stand of the sodomy allegations.
On Sunday, he was quoted by Reuters as saying: "I always believe that in any criminal investigation, the earlier you wrap up the better it would be."

In the interview with Reuters, Syed Hamid reportedly said the authorities should wrap up investigations into the allegations against the de facto Pakatan Rakyat leader as soon as possible.

On another note, Syed Hamid said based on the law, police can't force Anwar to give his DNA sample.

"I will table a DNA Act in Parliament next month."

Syed Hamid later asked the public to allow police to conclude their investigations first. "Lets not make any assumptions."

The Minister also urged reporters to practice ethical reporting to stop confusing the public.

Anwar, 60, has dismissed allegations of sodomy by his former aide as a political conspiracy to thwart his plans to topple the current Barisan Nasional government.

News portals reveal report saying Saiful not sodomised

PETALING JAYA: A medical report purportedly stating there was no medical indication of Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan having been sodomised has surfaced on online news portals.

The medical report from Hospital Pusrawi, signed by Dr Mohamed Osman Abdul Hamid at 2.14pm on June 28, ruled out that Mohd Saiful was sodomised.

It said there was “zero active bleeding”, “zero ulcer or pus” and “zero tear and scar” in Mohd Saiful's anus.

In the report, Dr Mohamed Osman had also recommended that Mohd Saiful go to a government hospital for further check-up.

How the medical report was leaked – which is a breach of patient confidentiality – is unknown.
Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said the Malaysian Medical Council must look into the case.

“I have instructed the director-general to look into the case to ensure that professionalism is maintained,” he said.

A top Health Ministry official said the leaked report was probably not a full report because it appeared to be documenting only the superficial.

A spokesman from the hospital said a statement would be issued soon.

Raja Petra Kamaruddin, editor of news portal Malaysia Today which carried the report, said the medical report proved that Mohd Saiful was not sodomised by Anwar.

“The police also have a copy of this report that I have published, so they know what I know,” he wrote.

Raja Petra also alleged that Dr Mohamed Osman had gone into hiding because the police wanted him to change his medical report to implicate Anwar.

PKR secretary-general Salehuddin Hashim said there needed to be complete public disclosure on the case.

“The medical report appears to confirm what we have always believed: that the allegations against Anwar are without merit and are politically motivated,” he said.

DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said: “This is a very disturbing turn of developments and will subject Malaysia to a new spate of international bashing unless the police can come forward to throw light on the first medical report and the whereabouts of Dr Mohamed Osman.”

Merc for visiting foreign dignitaries, says PM

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has clarified that the 14 Mercedes E200 Kompressors purchased by the Terengganu government for RM3.43mil would be used for visiting foreign dignitaries.

He said that this was the decision he reached with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak after speaking with Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said on Thursday.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said was in a jubilant mood Friday stressing that the Mercedes-Benz saga ended after the meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on Thursday, indicating that he had received the PM’s blessings to use the German-made vehicles as official cars.

Ahmad also met with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the same venue. "Yes, we (Abdullah and Najib) reached a consensus on the matter during the meeting at Putra World Trade Centre (on Thursday). The matter has been solved. I can't elaborate further," he said Friday after opening the Seri Kandi's Annual General Meeting at his official residence here.
The Terengganu Government was criticised recently after it purchased 14 Mercedes E200 Kompressors for RM3.43mil.

Ahmad said both leaders have told him that the matter is solved and should be laid to rest.
Asked whether the Mercedes Benz E200 Kompressor could be now regarded as official cars for state executive councillors and ex officio, Ahmad quipped ``Make your own presumption. I was told the matter has been solved."

Ahmad described his meeting with both Abdullah and Najib as cordial.
"I explained my rationale for switching the Proton Perdanas to Mercedes-Benz and they have accepted it.

"I told them that the state government has not spent extravagantly and the decision to procure the Mercedes was done after two years of evaluation," he said.
When reporters continued to pose questions whether the Mercedes would be used a official cars, Ahmad replied ``Wait and see.

"Let me stress again that this matter is solved and I have also received support from other state leaders and ministers on my move (to replace the Proton Perdanas)."

Ahmad was seen beaming throughout the press conference and also welcomed the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) to investigate the purported high cost of maintaining the Proton Perdana V6 Executive.

The state owns 16 of these Proton Perdanas and the servicing cost had hit a whopping RM1.07mil over the last four years.

Ahmad said ACA should carry out the probe diligently as he has no qualms assisting the agency.
"I also urge them (the ACA) to probe the high service charges by Spanco," he said.

Spanco Sdn Bhd is the service agent engaged by the Federal Government to maintain the fleet of Proton Perdanas.

Ahmad said the state government's move should not be seen as giving preference to Mercedes and deserting the national car. "Proton should take it constructively to enhance their quality. Even my previous official car as an exco had no seatbelt buckle and had inferior safety features," he added.

Life Explained

On the first day, God created the dog and said: 'Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years.' The dog said: 'That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?' So God agreed.

On the second day, God created the monkey and said: 'Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span.' The monkey said: 'Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the Dog did?' And God agreed.

On the third day, God created the cow and said: 'You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years.' The cow said: 'That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?' And God agreed again.

On the fourth day, God created man and said: 'Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years.' But man said: 'Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?' 'Okay,' said God, 'You asked for it.'

So that is why for our first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves.

For the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family.

For the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren.

And for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.

Life has now been explained to you.

There is no need to thank me for this valuable information. I'm doing it as a public service.

New ruling will make people adopt via illegal means

New ruling will make people adopt via illegal means
By NG CHENG YEE

PETALING JAYA: The ruling that prohibits adopted Muslim children from carrying their adoptive fathers' names will only encourage people to seek out illegal channels.
An adoptive mother, who declined to be named, said the ruling would only encourage more people to illegally adopt babies.

“They will just buy babies the illegal way as they would not want to go through the hassle of adopting a child through the legal procedures,” she said, referring to Wednesday's announcement by Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar.

Syed Hamid had said that adoptive parents were not allowed to register the child's name with bin or binti followed by the adoptive father's name in documents issued by the National Registration Department.

He said although the ruling was made by the National Fatwa Council in 2000, the director-general of the department had used his discretion to allow adoptive fathers to lend their names to their adopted children without having the bin or binti.

The mother, who has a 15-year-old son with her husband, adopted the baby girl over a year ago.
She said all Muslim adoptive parents would have to undergo a two-year cooling off period before they could change the parents' names in the child's birth certificate.

“We have waited for a year but we are devastated by the announcement,” she said, adding that they did not mind if her adopted child were not registered with a binti when she is given a new name.

She hoped the Government could overturn the ruling, which had made it difficult for adoptive parents to explain do the explanation the situation to the child.

“We have planned to tell her that she is adopted when she is five years old and before she goes to school.

“If such ruling is implemented, she will know it immediately that she is not our biological daughter, as she would not carry her father's name like her brother,” she said.

Yayasan Salam consultant and Rumah NurSalam adviser Dr Hartini Zainuddin said people who had planned to adopt a child from the home had “pulled out.”

“Adoptive parents and certainly the father would have a reasonable expectation that he would be named as the father of the child as he fully expects to act in the role of the child's father for the remainder of the child's life.

“It is only natural that such fathers would remain reluctant to enter into any adoption,'' she added.

Dr Hartini, who is in the midst of adopting two children, said the new directive outraged many adoptive parents who were halfway through the adoption process

http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/7/13/nation/21815034&sec=nation

seals: As I mentioned in my earlier postings related to adoption, if the government don't get ore open and respect the need of an adopting parent and to make it more easy and "closed", the options will always be the illegal way. Then don't go around arresting the agents and doctors and parents because the cause of proliferation of the illegal way, is the government itself!

KLIA LIMO ....again..

This time I called to book a budget limo to KLIA......hmmm what is the story this time...

I called the call center lady answered and I told her the pickup time (11.30am) then she asked for my flight time and I told here the time (2.00pm). Then she told me you have to be at airport 2 hours before the flight time and she said LIMO will pick me up at 1100 am. I insisted the pickup time to me 1100hrs ( she did not even ask me where to pick me up from). She said it is their company policy to pick up 3 hours before flight time.

Then I asked her if I m from Malacca is it still 3 hours she said "no", then I asked if I m from Sepang (near to airport) is it still 3 hours she said "no". Then the call dropped

I called again, the same lady answered, I insisted that the pickup time is 11.30am and she insisted 11.00am. When I demanded she hang up the phone saying if you can't follow our policy we cannot take your booking..... (pls note she did not even ask my location)

But my point was, they can advice but the customer will decide. When I asked her when I made use of KLIA LIMO last month twice, there was no such requirements, she could not answer.

But for me it is my decision to travel to KLIA 2 1/2 hours before flight. As my time to KLIA is about 20mins. Many times I almost slept off while waiting for boarding time and almost missed my flights. I think we are matured enough to decide and take responsibility on the travel time. Especially frequent flyer's like me.

This time I used a town taxi and he picked me up at 11.30am and I was in KLIA by 12noon and checked in and was in the boarding area by 12.30pm and it was still a boring wait till 2.00pm.

Balasubramaniam Retracts All Accusations Against Najib In Statutory Declaration

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 4 (Bernama) -- Private investigator P.Balasubramaniam Friday retracted all statements that he had made about Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's alleged involvement with Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu in his statutory declaration dated July 1.

"I wish to retract the entire contents of my statuutory declaration dated July 1 2008. I was compelled to affirm the said statutory declaration under duress," he said in his new statutory declaration dated Friday.

Speaking through his lawyer, M.Arulampalam, Balasubramaniam told reporters that the statements contained in his previous statutory declaration was inaccurate and not the truth.

The new statutory declaration states:"I wish to expressly state that at no material time did (Abdul) Razak (Abdullah) Baginda inform me that he was introduced to Altantuya Shaaribu by a VIP and at no material time did Razak Baginda inform me that Datuk Seri Najib had a sexual relationship with Altantuya Shaaribu and that she was susceptible to anal intercourse.

PI retracts declaration (updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: Political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda's private investigator P.

Balasubramaniam on Friday retracted the statutory declaration which he made less than 24 hours ago.

In a startling turn of events Balasubramaniam revealed in a second statutory declaration that he wished "to retract the entire contents of my statutory declaration dated July 1 2008.

I was compelled to affirm the said statutory declaration under duress".

The document also read that all statements made were inaccurate and not the truth.

A visibly perturbed Balasubramaniam remained mum on Friday when met by pressmen who had rushed to a hotel here where his new lawyer Arulampalam Mariam Pillai accompanied him for the brief press conference.

Dressed in a cap and T-shirt Balasubramaniam refused to answer questions posed to him and left quickly after his lawyer distributed the second statutory declaration to reporters.

Arulampalam also refused to entertain pressmen, giving only a brief statement that his client was under duress and that he was upset.

The new statutory declaration withdrew all statements that Balasubramaniam had revealed to a packed press conference organised by PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at party headquarters on Thursday.

This included the fact that he had informed police what political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda had purportedly told him prior to Altantuya's murder.

The 10 statements highlighted in the second statutory declaration dated July 4 were:

* At no material time did Razak inform him (Balasubramaniam) that the former was introduced to Altantuya Shaariibuu by a VIP;

Groups demand action against Tajuddin

KUALA LUMPUR (July 3, 2008) : Three groups have condemned Pasir Salak MP Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman for labelling non-Malays in the country as immigrants in his debate in the Dewan Rakyat on the 9th Malaysia Plan mid-term review on Tuesday.

MCA Youth secretary-general Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said today the party’s legal bureau is studying the matter and will write to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak as the Chief Whip, recommending that action be taken against Tajuddin.

"His statement contained racist elements. It had more or less hurt the feelings of the Chinese community and other non-Malays.

"Our legal bureau will look into this for the sake of preserving the solidarity within BN.
"We are all Malaysian citizens and must observe national unity. This does not have any good and could also be damaging and provoke reaction," he told a press conference at the Parliament lobby.

The press conference was also attended by representatives from Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth and the Federation of Malaysian Clans and Guilds Youths Association which protested Tajuddin's comments.

Wee said if no action is taken against Tajuddin, they plan to lodge a police report.

seals: Don't say it.... just do it...make a police report... and as usual MIC is sleeping. It looks like DAP, PKR and MCA will represent Indians.

BN you are keeping too many stupid MP's.

You also have a MP that challenged the GOD, claiming UMNO is more powerful then GOD (I take it as insulting the GOD). Someone should have made a police report on behalf of GOD.

MCA Youth holdsfirm on Article 153

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Youth has lashed out at Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar for hinting that action would be taken against the Malaysian Bar Council for holding a Social Contract Forum last Saturday.

Its legal bureau chief, Gan Ping Sieu, was disappointed with Syed Hamid for saying that the police could begin investigations if a report was lodged against the Bar Council for sedition.

"Discussing the process of drafting the Constitution, including its historical background and reasons, must not be interpreted as questioning the Malays' special position," he said in a statement yesterday.

He added that no one should object to organisations or bodies which conducted forums to discuss the Federal Constitution objectively and rationally, without distorting the facts.

It was reported that speakers at the forum -- lawyer Tommy Thomas, academic Dr Mavis Puthucheary and political analysts Dr Kua Kia Soong and Dr Farish Noor -- discussed Article 153 of the Federal Constitution in relation to Malay rights.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam had also criticised the forum, saying it was part of the Bar Council's move to suppress and discredit the Malays and Islam.

Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein had called the forum an "unhealthy" development, adding that the social contract on the position and rights of the Malays was a historical fact.

Gan, however, argued that the forum was needed because the public had the right to clearly understand Article 153. He said the MCA believed that all Malaysians were knowledgeable and mature enough to openly discuss any matter related to the Constitution.

"Anyone who wants to prevent such forums has actually gone against freedom of speech as enshrined in the Federal Constitution."

seals: the message that I get here is, government lives in fear. They don't want people to know and understand the Federal Constitution. I don't know what can be the reason.

It is every ones right and everyone must know the Federal Constitution clearly, that makes him/her a complete Malaysian. No one can deny that.

On top of living in fear, trying to create a fear in the people of Malaysia by using "Police Investigations" "sedition". Look at the positive side, it is better for Malaysian to know the details so that they know where to stop and respect the rights.

How to respect the rights when they don't know the details, or do you expect people to remain stupid and shake head to what the politicians says.

I agree with Gan, people are matured and you have to deal with matured and educated Malaysians. You failed the last elections because you were in the past and people became more matured.

Grow up.

Armed forces, police prepare for demos

KUALA LUMPUR: Cooperation between the police and armed forces is necessary to maintain public order and security in the country.

With this in mind, the two security forces launched a joint safety exercise at the Police College in Cheras yesterday.Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said cooperation was crucial because political parties, non-governmental organisations and individuals were, of late, organising more illegal assemblies.

"It is crucial, and the right time, for the forces to organise and plan strategies to carry out duties in maintaining public order as outlined in the public order manual," he said. The exercise, which began yesterday and ends on Monday, is to get planners to understand what it takes to coordinate efforts between the two forces should the need arise.

Musa said the joint exercise, whose focus is on the Klang Valley, especially Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya, was to show that public order problems could be tackled properly and efficiently by both forces.Asked if this meant that the armed forces would be used to tackle illegal assemblies, he said this would only be so if absolutely necessary and an emergency had to be declared.

Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Zainal said the exercise was the first of two phases. In this phase, discussions would be held to work out certain procedures.

The second phase involved actual deployment of forces. Legal officers of both forces would advise on the legal aspects of tackling any crisis."Such activities (the exercise) have to be carried out so that a standard operating procedure can be worked out. Without such exercises, there will be no coordination when a real threat arises," he said.
