The case is scheduled for hearing on Aug 19. On Thursday, Anwar said he had decided to contest in Pematang Pauh instead because the Kulim petition might take too long to settle. Life Explained

On the first day, God created the dog and said: 'Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years.' The dog said: 'That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?' So God agreed. On the second day, God created the monkey and said: 'Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span.' The monkey said: 'Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the Dog did?' And God agreed. On the third day, God created the cow and said: 'You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years.' The cow said: 'That's kind of a tough life you want me to live f

New ruling will make people adopt via illegal means

New ruling will make people adopt via illegal means By NG CHENG YEE PETALING JAYA: The ruling that prohibits adopted Muslim children from carrying their adoptive fathers' names will only encourage people to seek out illegal channels. An adoptive mother, who declined to be named, said the ruling would only encourage more people to illegally adopt babies. “They will just buy babies the illegal way as they would not want to go through the hassle of adopting a child through the legal procedures,” she said, referring to Wednesday's announcement by Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar. Syed Hamid had said that adoptive parents were not allowed to register the child's name with bin or binti followed by the adoptive father's name in documents issued by the National Registration Department. He said although the ruling was made by the National Fatwa Council in 2000, the director-general of the department had used his discretion to allow adoptive fathers to lend their names t

Groups demand action against Tajuddin

KUALA LUMPUR (July 3, 2008) : Three groups have condemned Pasir Salak MP Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman for labelling non-Malays in the country as immigrants in his debate in the Dewan Rakyat on the 9th Malaysia Plan mid-term review on Tuesday. MCA Youth secretary-general Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said today the party’s legal bureau is studying the matter and will write to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak as the Chief Whip, recommending that action be taken against Tajuddin. "His statement contained racist elements. It had more or less hurt the feelings of the Chinese community and other non-Malays. "Our legal bureau will look into this for the sake of preserving the solidarity within BN. "We are all Malaysian citizens and must observe national unity. MCA Youth holdsfirm on Article 153

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Youth has lashed out at Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar for hinting that action would be taken against the Malaysian Bar Council for holding a Social Contract Forum last Saturday. Its legal bureau chief, Gan Ping Sieu, was disappointed with Syed Hamid for saying that the police could begin investigations if a report was lodged against the Bar Council for sedition. "Discussing the process of drafting the Constitution, including its historical background and reasons, must not be interpreted as questioning the Malays' special position," he said in a statement yesterday. He added that no one should object to organisations or bodies which conducted forums to discuss the Federal Constitution objectively and rationally, without distorting the facts. It was reported that speakers at the forum -- lawyer Tommy Thomas, academic Dr Mavis Puthucheary and political analysts Dr Kua Kia Soong and Dr Farish Noor -- discussed Article 153 of the Federal Constitut

Armed forces, police prepare for demos

KUALA LUMPUR: Cooperation between the police and armed forces is necessary to maintain public order and security in the country. With this in mind, the two security forces launched a joint safety exercise at the Police College in Cheras yesterday.Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said cooperation was crucial because political parties, non-governmental organisations and individuals were, of late, organising more illegal assemblies. "It is crucial, and the right time, for the forces to organise and plan strategies to carry out duties in maintaining public order as outlined in the public order manual," he said. The exercise, which began yesterday and ends on Monday, is to get planners to understand what it takes to coordinate efforts between the two forces should the need arise. Musa said the joint exercise, whose focus is on the Klang Valley, especially Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya, was to show that public order problems could be tackled properly and
