Selangor SPCA - campaign to increase penalty

Selangor SPCA wants to raise the fine for animal cruelty from RM200 to RM10,000. The RM200 fine has not been raised since 1953 when the Animal Ordinance came into effect. SPCA has embarked in a signature campaign to increase the penalty for these offenders. It hoped to collect 100,000 signatures before Dec 31, 2006 and hand the petition over to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. The petition is still short of 33,000 signatures. The petition also advocates a heavier jail term and a lifetime ban on animal ownership for those charged with cruelty to animal.
